Small but reliable free music downloading utility
Windows XP / Windows 2000 / Windows 8 / Windows Vista / Windows 7
Music MP3 Get is an MP3 downloading program that uses social media sites as its source for files. It seems to find just about any song we searched for very quickly, and the layout is easy to use. It's so easy to operate, in fact, that even though it comes with a very instructive help file, most of us were able to figure it out without reading the file at all.
Since the program searches several different social media sites to locate a specific song, you'd expect the results to be slow and lagging. On the contrary, the program's speed is extremely impressive, with several options provided in just a few seconds of searching. Type in an artist's name, and you'll see several song options available. Download the one you want as an MP3, or, if you're not sure which one you want right away, you can use the preview option to hear a track first. It had trouble with very obscure songs, but anything well-known popped up almost immediately. If you can find a video of it on YouTube, you can almost certainly find it here through this program.
Another feature of the program focuses on showcasing and recommending new music. This is a nice idea, but right now the choices seem very limited. When we tested it, it gave us primarily hip-hop without a lot of variety, even when we hadn't been searching for hip-hop songs through the program. It's a great idea, though, and perhaps future updates will recommend new releases from a wider selection of genres.
One of the issues we did run into is that while it's very stable on older versions of Windows, it gets clunky and has trouble searching in newer ones. There is an updated version that works up through Windows 7, so anyone with a slightly older computer will be fine, but Windows 8 users may have to hang on until the next update comes along. Any downloaded files, however, can be transferred to a Windows 8 computer easily. The program does download in basic MP3 format, which means the downloaded files will be able to play on any portable music player, including iPods.
There is a free version of the program which allows you to download 15 songs for free, after which you must upgrade to the purchased version if you want full recordings. If you only need a few songs, you can use up those 15 free songs, but if you plan to download music fairly regularly, it would be worth it to pay for the registered version. It does exactly what it advertises, and it does it well. If you're just looking for something simple and easy-to-use that will help you find your favorite songs online, this one is worth downloading.
